Update (re: comment below by Simren)
The following items were discussed in the youth meeting Sunday at Gurdwara Sahib Sukh Sagar:
- The Khalsa Diwan Society will be celebrating 100 years since its foundation. The celebrations will take place at Gurdwara Sahib Sukh Sagar from December 15 to 25th. It will include an essay competition, dastaar competition, seminars, discussions, workshops, keertan programs, gatka demonstrations, and more. Some of the events will take place at the Queensborough Community Centre and some at Gurdwara Sahib Sukh Sagar. The Essay Competition Deadline has been extended to November 30th in order to encourage more participation from the youth. [SEND YOUR SUBMISSIONS NOW FOR THE ESSAY COMPETITION - DEADLINE IS APPROACHING]
- For the 100 Years Celebration, many volunteers are needed in many different roles. There will be responsibilities of ushers / guides, clean-up, set-up, introductions / MC, promotions, advertisement, follow-up, guest relations, media relations, and much more. For more information please contact the youth committee at the Gurdwara Sahib at info@sukhsagar.ca
- In addition to this celebration there will be smaller, local consistent programs in the works at the Gurdwara Sahib. Currently there is a weekly Asa Di Vaar program by the sangat / youth on Sunday mornings at 7am, and a daily Amrit Vela program starting officially on Monday (tomorrow) with simran and nitem from 4:30am to 6:30am.
- There will be punjabi, keertan, tabla, and other types of classes planned at the gurdwara sahib in addition to a weekly youth program which will be presented by different groups alternating (youth groups, SSA’s, sikh schools, etc.). For this, your support is needed. The youth need to get involved in the volunteer activities at the gurdwara sahib and make full use of the facilities and resources so that they can get the training, experience, education, inspiration, leadership, friendship, guidance, sense of belonging, sangat, role models, guides, encouragement, support, peace of mind, etc. that we are looking for, that we need, that will help us to stay away from the things that have caused so many problems in the lives of BC youth in recent years – drugs, gangs, crime, depression, bullying, family violence, apostacy.
- The gurdwara sahib committee is not a seperate organization but just a few faces in the front, while the gurdwara sahib is run by YOU – the sangat, the Sikh community. The gurdwara sahib is open to all of the Sikh community and the committee is completely open to new ideas, suggestions, programs, etc. Please get involved by e-mailing info@sukhsagar.ca
