Youth Forum – Princess Margaret High School Surrey

Get ready for the YOUTH FORUM at Princess Margaret High School in Surrey. As some of you know the Mentorship Committee within VIRSA held a forum in January at Tamanawis High School and it was a great success. Our objective’s or goals for these forums is to create dialogue within our youth about the issues and concerns in our community specifically within the Indo-Canadian community. By doing this we are working together towards solutions and being pro-active to future problems of drugs, gang-violence and tragedy.

The Tamanawis Form was received in a very positive manner from community members, local media including the Surrey Leader and attention from TV media (channel M). Many other schools had contacted us requesting that this type of event be held at their schools. But our greatest success came from the youth, it was amazing to see them become empowered and have a voice, some of the comments we received from the students:

“I really loved the Forum, everything was great” Male, Gr. 12 student

“The classroom discussions were the best and I finally got a chance to talk about things I normally don’t get to talk about” Male Gr. 10 student

“The slideshow and the discussion made me more aware of the issues in our community that I never realized happened around us” Female Gr. 11 student

These were just a few of the positive comments we received from the 250 student whom attended the forum.

And of course to make this event a great success we need fabulous volunteers like yourselves to really make this evening happen so please take that one day out of your busy schedule to truly make a difference in the lives of these youth. Remember the only way we can change things is to be apart of the change.
