The Gurmat Center, located in the city of Abbotsford, BC, is excited to offer a new and exciting course this year called ‘Sikh Studies’. This course will give students a better knowledge of the Sikh religion, by exploring many different aspects of the Sikh religion, such as Sikh philosophy, and Sikh history. It is open to any person, of any age, and the classes will be held every Wednesday evening, from 5 – 7pm at the Gurmat Center.
Students of this course are also going to take part in making a film based on Sikhism. There will also by a drama club available for those students who wish to write, direct, and act out skits and plays based on the Sikh religion.
It is very important for the Sikh Youth to learn about their religion. Many youth complain that they cannot understand anything that is being said at the Gurudwara Sahibs, and the Gurmat Center acknowledges their concerns. That is why all lectures are conducted in English, by Canadian born and raised teachers. This helps break down certain barriers that exist between Punjabi speaking adults, and English speaking youth, and students are more comfortable in understanding the content being taught.
This course is open to anyone who would like to learn about the Sikh Religion. The first class is on Wednesday, September 20th beginning at 5:00 pm. There is also an initiation session being held on September 13th, at 5:00 pm. The Gurmat Center is located at 31987 Townshipline Rd, Abbotsford, BC, and is about 30 minutes away from Surrey. For more information about registration or fees, please contact the Gurmat Center at 604-855-0020 or 778-838-7454. Thank you.
