Surrey, B.C. (KP) – A new Khalsa School which is to teach Sikh religion, history, and culture to students has been given the green light by the city council. The Khalsa School is expected to accommodate some 1,800 students on its campus.
Some opponents of the proposal brought forth the fact that the school’s founder was Ripudaman Singh Malik, a Sikh business man who was tried in the 1985 Air India Bombings. However, Malik was acquitted in the trial.
Mr. Malik is also the founder of the Satnam Education Society, which opened a Khalsa School in Vancouver in 1986 and a second one in Surrey in 1992.
With a vital need for a new Khalsa School in the area along with the approval of the city council, the Khalsa School is expected to open next year.
