Yes, that is true that the candy is given out to lure kids away from going trick or treating, and instead attending a program where they can learn about their history, and at the same time have a good time. If it was just a night of lectures etc…i don’t think many kids will come next year, because they will go out to get candy from house to house instead.

The Khalsa cannot be saddened. The Khalsa feels sorrow of seperation from the Almighty creator. Yes, the Khalsa feels the pain of others, but our community was blessed with martyrdom on October 31 of Bhai Beant Singh ji. And we exterminated a terrorist dictator, Indira Gandhi, who was responsible for the death of thousands of Sikhs. So this day is thus celebrated. The aftermath is a time of reflection. Black November. That is why there is the AkhandJaap on November 20th. For reflection. Thanks for your comments! Perhaps the candies are also to lure them away from the manmat of Hallowe’en and towards this Gurmat event.

Isn’t it wrong to give out Candy!! to kids to commemorate this.
This one of the saddest days in history, killing Indra Gandhi
led to thousands of sikhs being slaughtered.

The shaheedi smagam is a great event and a even greater day for the sikh panth. The event was great last year as my family took part, kids get to understand their history as well as have a good time with others in the community. I encourage everyone to come and take part of such a great day.
