HUMBLE REQUEST
Dear Khalsa Ji
Just wanted to drop you a line that this month’s Feed the Homeless Drive is taking place on March 31st, 2007. We would be obliged if you can let your readers know about the following incase they want to take part in this humble event.
We are distributing free food and drinks and clothes to the homeless community of Vancouver Eastside community on behalf of the ‘Sikh Community’.
We, are not representing any organization or Society, we are merely distributing Guru Ji’s langar (free food) to the poor and needy as the Guru has taught us to do on behalf of the Sikh Community. This is the third such event in 3 months. The first event was held on New Years Eve where we fed over 700 homeless people. The second was held on Feb 24th, 2007 where we fed over 2,000 people. We are hoping to feed around 2,000 people again this month.
The Langar or free kitchen was started by the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is designed to uphold the principle of equality between all people of the world regardless of religion, caste, colour, creed, age, gender or social status. In addition to the ideals of equality, the tradition of Langar expresses the ethics of sharing, community, inclusiveness and oneness of all humankind. “..the Light of God is in all hearts.” It is about giving and helping those who need it most in our Society.
If anyone would like to donate food and drinks or clothes, the drop off point is:
