Dasmesh Darbar announces date of largest
Vaisakhi Celebration Parade in North America
The 2006 Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan (parade) in Surrey will take place
on April 15th.
Surrey, BC, November 21, 2005:  The 2006 Vaisakhi Parade in Surrey will take place on Saturday April 15th. The celebrations
will be held over the Easter long weekend to accommodate the thousands of Sikhs expected to arrive from around the world. The 2005
Vaisakhi Parade attracted over 90,000 attendees which in addition to members of the Sikh faith, also included members of various
communities.

The annual event has become the largest Vaisakhi Celebration in North America, which marks the creation of the Khalsa (Pure Ones) in
1699 by the tenth master Sri Guru Gobind Singh. Outside of the Sikh homeland of Punjab, the Surrey event is considered the largest and
most elaborate Sikh celebrations. Similar to the 2005 parade, over 90,000 Sikhs and non-Sikhs are expected to attend the parade from
around the world.

Preparations for the event are currently under way and volunteer recruitment will begin in early 2006. The Sikh Youth will play an integral
role in event preparations.
