STOP the Torture and False Arrest of Sikhs by Punjab Police
January 14th, 2007 by admin
Jallandhar, Punjab (KP) - Despite the widespread outcry from the Sikh Diaspora, Paramjeet Singh Dhadi (UK), Amolak Singh and Jaswinder Singh are still being kept under detention, and were again presented in the court of District Magistrate Deepak Choudhary. Last week, Panthic Weekly published the news of their notorious arrest. At the first court hearing which was held two weeks ago, the trio were sent on a remand for four days by the District Magistrate.
At the court hearing, which took place after the expiration of the initial remand, it was requested by the Government lawyer to grant another five day remand so additional interrogations could take place, but this plead was highly contested by the opposing lawyer. After much deliberation, it was announced by the District Magistrate to send the accused on a 14 day arrest in the high security Nabha Jail. In the mean time, he asked that health and medical check up reports should be presented at the next court hearing.
The arrest of Paramjeet Singh Dhadi, Amolak Singh and Jaswinder Singh was propagated by Punjabi Police Officials who asserted that the RDX and other explosives were recovered from the possession of the three. At the preceding and previous court hearing, some reporters were able to question the arrested Singhs, despite the efforts of the police to isolate them from the media world. While answering questions of the press, it was alleged by the Singhs that they had to suffer severe torture and degrading remarks of the police officers while being under custody.
At this past court hearing, Paramjeet Singh Dhadi told the press that an on duty police officer had ill-treated him. When asked by the press to disclose the name, Dhadhi told them that he does not know the name but pointed towards a police officer who was standing close to the police jeeps. Upon the approach of the press, the police officer escaped the spot without allowing any questions to be posed.
Jasbir Singh Rode, who was also arrested but later released by the police, held that the case was falsely implanted by the police to defame the Singhs. He claimed that all this was being done to favor Parkash Badal. It should be noted that Naunihal Singh, SSP Jallandhar, told the press that the explosives were being carried to disrupt the upcoming assembly elections in the State.
Jasbir Singh Rode again spoke with the press recently in relation to this case and expressed the innocence of the Singhs who were picked by the police. Jasbir Singh Rode appealed to Jathedar Vedanti to summon Parkash Badal at Akal Takhat Sahib for mutilating Amritdhari Singhs. Jasbir Singh Rode was accompanied by Ravi Inder Singh (Akali Dal 1920), Mohkam Singh (Damdami Taksal) and many other personalities while he was being interviewed by the press.
