Eleventh Shaheedi Divas of Bhai Dilaavar Singh

August 31 is the 11th Shaheedi Divas of Bhai Dilaavar Singh Babbar who sacrificed his life in order to save Punjab and the Sikh community of the Rabid Dog, Beanta Sinh, who was then Cheif Minister of Punjab.

Beanta was a mass-murderer who had made a game of killing Sikh youth and had given the police all the power and liberty to do as they wished. In 1992, the year Beanta came to power, thousands upon thousands of innocent Sikh youths were killed. Any amritdhari between the ages of 15 to 80 was a target. According to Amnesty International, Beantas police tactics involved the widespread use of torture, rape, extra-judicial killings and unreported cremations.

On August 31, 1995, at the civil secretariat in Chandigarh, Bhai Dilaavar Singh sent Beanta to hell and saved Punjab from more terror at the hands of the police.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara also helped Bhai Dilaavar Singh in this mission and recently he, in addition to hundreds of Punjab Sikhs, were hounded and illegally arrested. Let us not forget their commitment to protecting innocent civilians and minorities, and fighting corruption, state-sponsored terrorism, and genocide in India.
