Surrey Kids & Teens Events in January

Teens, come and talk about books, make new friends and have a good time. Surrey Public Library’s Semiahmoo Library offers a free Book Club for teens, ages 13-18. The club meets every three weeks on Wednesdays, 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. The dates are January 11, February 1, 22 and March 22. The Semiahmoo Library is located at 1815-152nd Street, Surrey. Kids’ Book Club
Do you like to read and talk about books with your friends? Join the Kids’ Book Club at Semiahmoo Library (1815-152nd Street). The club is free and open to kids ages 9-12. The club will meet every three weeks, Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 p.m., January 25, February 15, March 8 & 29. Books will be available for book club participants. Come and talk about books, meet with friends and have a good time. Group size is limited. Register early by calling 604-592-6907 or 604-592-6908.
Teach Your Child Important Skills
Learn how you can teach your baby or child important skills now so that they become good readers by attending a ‘Ready to Read’ workshop. You will learn fun hands-on activities that stimulate a child’s language acquisition and foster appreciation for stories, songs and books. You will also discover the six pre-reading skills identified by extensive research as necessary for later reading success. These free, 1.5-hour workshops presented by Surrey Public Library and Surrey Parks & Recreation are for parents and caregivers. Sessions are held at the South Surrey Recreation Centre located at 14601-20th Avenue. Free on-site childcare is provided. Register for any of the following sessions by calling 604-502-6200. Session for parents/caregivers of children birth - 2 years: Tuesday, January 10, 3-4 p.m. (#422720). Session for parents/caregivers of children 2 - 3 years: Tuesday, January 17, 3-4 p.m. (#422721). Chess for Teens and Kids
Surrey Public Library presents chess for teens and kids, Grade 3 and up. Come show your moves at the Guildford Library located at 15105-105th Avenue. Chess will be played on Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m., beginning January 12. Participants must already know how to play. If you have your own chess set, bring it with you. We will have some sets available. Register by phoning 604-588-5015 (ext. 306), or visit the Guildford Library.
Enjoy Computer Camps at the Library
Surrey Public Library presents free Kids’ Computer Camps at the Guildford Library. Kids ages 12-16 can participate in Creating a Blog on Saturday, January 14, 2-3 p.m. Kids ages 6-8 can have fun with Online Colouring on Saturday, January 21, 11 a.m.-12 pm. For kids ages 9-12, the line-up includes: Online Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, January 14, 11a.m.-12 pm, Learn to Draw with Microsoft Paint on Thursday, January 19, 3:15-4:15 p.m., Online Fun with Harry Potter on Saturday, January 21, 2-3 p.m., and Online Fun with Chronicles of Narnia on Thursday, January 26, 3:15-4:15 p.m. The Guildford Library is located at 15105 - 105th Avenue.
