Sikhism Religion - Identity (UBC SSA Conference)
January 15th, 2006 by adminUPDATE
With Guru ji’s kirpa, the University of BC Sikh Students Association’s annual Sikhism Conference for 2006 was a success. With the attendance of over 100 youth from various schools and cities across BC, with an average age of 19, the conference had a positive effect on the attendees and the workshops were interesting and thought-provoking. The conference began with introductory comments and some short videos, followed by seperate workshops. The attendees were seperated into three groups, for which they would attend meditation, gatka, and discussion workshops to stimulate their spiritual, physical, and mental Sikh experience. The attendees were treated to lunch, and received folders and pens with which to take notes. The attendees also received a free gurbani CD and some flyers with more information on Sikh events. The youth had an opportunity to meet other young people from various backgrounds, and to be inspired by the Sikh identity and encouraged to be confident in their own Sikh identity. It was also very inspiring to see BC Sikh youth from different SSA’s, different gatka teams, and different jathas enjoying the conference together. Kudos to the UBC SSA for a very nice event.
