Annual Shaheedi Smagam
October 28th, 2006 by admin
The Gurmat Center will be holding a very special program on October 31st, 2006, beginning at 4:30 pm, dedicated to all the brave men, women, and children, who have sacrificed their lives for the Sikh faith. The Gurmat Center’s goal is to teach the youth about the greatness of the Sikh Religion, whether it is the teachings of the Gurus, or the great sacrifices that so many Gursikhs have made in the name of truth and justice. In June of 1984, Sri Harimander Sahib (Golden Temple) was attacked, and as a result, thousands of innocent men, women, and children were massacred. Bhai Beant Singh Ji and Satwant Singh Ji saw this as such a horrific crime, that on October 31st, 1984, they were willing to sacrifice their own lives in order to bring justice to those responsible for this massacre. With this Smagam, the Gurmat Center hopes to make the youth aware of the historical events that have taken place in Sikhism, while making it an enjoyable experience at the same time.
The following is a list of events that will be taking place:
- Slideshow and video about Shaheedi (people who sacrificed their lives for the Truth)
- Special Sikh Jeopardy Game
- Live Drama Skits
- Kirtan & Kavishree
- Special Gatka Exhibition
- Draws & Prizes
