Shaheedi Divas
November 24th, 2006 by adminVaheguru ji ka khalsa,
Vaheguru ji ki fatheh!
In all of Sikh history, the supreme sacrifices of naam-leva / naam-abhyaasee gurmukhs for the sake of righteousness and truth are overwhelming. Sacrifice while standing for the principles of the faith is a staple of the Sikh story, from the very beginning.
This week, and this day specifically, we commemorate the sacrifices of some special Gursikh pyare, and our beloved Guru Sahib, for the protection of the oppressed and defenceless people. The sons and daughters of Guru ji are making their prayers around the world, for the blessings of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, so that they may also have the strength and courage to fight for the sake of the innocent.
Meanwhile the entire population of Hindus pray on this day to pay homage to Guru Sahib, who saved the honour of the Kashmiri Pandits, and saved their entire religion from being destroyed from history by the Moghuls. Although they were from a different way of life and faith practice, the Kashmiri Pandits were taken into the shelter of the Guru for the reasons that all are equal before God, all have the same light of God within them, all deserve the right to practice their faith without oppression, and Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was the holiest soul of the world who could ensure these rights were protected.

Reflecting the true light of the Guru, we celebrate the great jeevans of Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Dayal Das (Dayala) Ji, who underwent unbearable and unspeakable tortures at the hands of the spineless, heartless Moghuls, but never turned away from the Guru, and kept their concentration on Naam and Gurbani while sacrificing their lives. We honour the great servants of the Guru, Bhai Jaita Ji (Rangreta Guru ka beta - later became Baba Jeevan Singh Ji) and Bhai Lakhi Shah Vanjara Ji, who risked their lives and sacrificed their property for the respectful antam-sanskaar of Guru ji’s five-elemental human body. We honour the great strength of the universal mother soul, Sri Mata Gujri (Gujjar Kaur) Ji, who raised her son with such amazing principles that he could reign on the throne of the King of Kings at a young age of nine. And we honour that King of Kings, our father, the great Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji, who took inspiration from the shaheedi of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and the Gursikhs at Chandni Chowk, and decided to prevent the future’s Sikhs from becoming cowards, hidden in the crowd. Our father, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji resolved to make the Sikh identity distinct, and make the Khalsa a fearless and unstoppable force for the good of all humanity. This was a great turning point in the story of the Sikh panth - and while the entire world cried at their physical loss of Guru Sahib, the entire universe of all holy and spiritual beings praised the great, great Guru, and hailed the victory of the Guru, the victory of the Sikhs, the Khalsa, the victory of the Creator, Vaheguru.

On an aside - writing for a blog is one level of difficulty. Writing regularly is even more difficult. But writing regularly and also keeping your blog entries captivating, motivating, inspiring, and visually appealing is a skill and a time-consuming effort. But a few brothers and sisters on the internet, with Guru’s kirpa, have been able to accomplish this. The following Gursikhs have made a unique effort in sharing the knowledge of this Shaheedi Divas with the panth, by preparing these articles on their blogs and not only using textbook knowledge, but writing from their heart … when they write from their heart, readers are even more inspired, and the emotional, psychological, spiritual effect continues, hopefully turning into positive and righteous action.
If you have seen some more blogs or forums with very inspiring tributes to the Shaheedi Divas, especially ones that were personally written, please post them in the comments.
