Please Attend This Weekend - Barsi Smagam
May 3rd, 2006 by adminVaheguru ji ki fatheh!THE BARSI SMAGAM IS HERE!
This is an opportunity for the Sikh youth and the Sikh community in BC to gather together in unity, to celebrate the glory of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji and Sri Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, and to celebrate the Gurmat jeevans of three of their beloved children, Bhai Parminder Singh Ji, Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji, and Bibi Rena Kaur Ji.
These three Gursikhs were living in BC and passed away at very young ages due to a car accident on May 7 / 8, 2004 on their way to a special appearance at the Edmonton Vaisakhi celebrations.
Their life legacy has reached and inspired Gursikhs from all walks of life and from all corners of the world. Bhai Parminder Singh was a world-renowned English katha speaker, a passionate advocate and leader in the movement for Gurmat parchar to the Sikh youth, and was the founder of the Gurmat Studies Foundation and Guru Nanak Academy. Bhai Charnjit Singh was a world-renowned gatka master and Sikh history expert with great speaking abilities, and served as the jathedar of the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara in Mehta (Punjab), Toronto (Ontario), and Surrey (BC). Bibi Rena Kaur was the most active team member of the Akhara, a volunteer at Guru Nanak Academy, an accomplished keertani, and the inspiration for Kaurs United, a non-profit Sikh womens organization.
