March Gurmat Camp a Success
April 1st, 2006 by adminGurdwara Sahib Kalgidhar Darbar Abbotsford organized a Gurmat camp with the help of Satnam Education Society and the teachers of Khalsa School Surrey from March 13 – 17. Over 160 students participated in this camp. In this five-day camp the children learned Punjabi language, Gurbani, Kirtan,Tabla and Sikh history. They watched movies on Sikh history as well. On the last day of the camp more than 20 children along with their parents got the gift of Amrit.
Bhai Swaran Singh Gill, president, Bhai Balbir Singh Saggu, general secretary, and Bhai Mohinder Singh Mangat, treasurer of the Gurdwara Sahib Kalghidhar Darbar honoured them with the robes of honour-the Saropas. Bibi Kirpal Kaur Dhaliwal and Bibi Parshotam Kaur Dhaliwal, the members of the committee presented medals and a book on Sikhism to the students of the Sahibzada Ajit Singh group, whereas, Bhai Swaran Singh Gill, the president, Bhai Balbir Singh Saggu, the general secretary, and Bhai Mohinder Singh Mangat, the treasurer of the management committee presented medals and a book to the students of Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh group respectively.
The teachers of the Khalsa School Surrey put extraordinary efforts to make camp of this size a great success. Honouring them with Saropas and certificates by the management of the Gurdwara recognized their services. Bhai Baldeep Singh Hayer, the vice principal of the Khalsa School Surrey and in charge of the Gurmat camp thanked the cooperation and coordination provided by the management and Dr. Tarlochan Singh Randhawa for coordinating the camp. He emphasized to the students of the camp to recognize and follow the Sikh great heritage. To have continuity of this leaning process, Bhai Baldeep Singh Hayer requested the students to attend evening classes during weekdays on Sikh History and Sikh Theology being conducted by Dr. Tarlochan Singh Randhawa at the Gurdwara Sahib Kalgidhar Darbar Sahib. Dr Randhawa was also honored with Saropa.
At the closing ceremony, Bhai Hari Singh, the Wazir of Gurdwara Sahib performed Ardas for the gift of education to the students and Chardhi Kala of the Khalsa Panth. Bhai Swaran Singh Gill, and Bhai Balbir Singh Saggu thanked the parents and children for attending the Gurmat camp and for its success. While thanking the Satnam Education Society and teachers of the Khalsa School for organizing this camp, they requested them to organize such Gurmat camps in future also.
The Satnam Education Society organizes such Gurmat camps at various places during school breaks every year, and the Sikh students response well to these camps. Besides Abbotsford, the Gurmat camps at Houston, Oliver, and in Surrey were also organized successfully during the current school break from March 13 – 17.
