Khalsa School Vancouver Releases New Book
April 13th, 2006 by adminWell known Sikh educator and priest Gian Singh Kotli released a book of poems, “Waves From The Core Of Our Hearts,” composed by Grade 7 students of Khalsa Elementary School Vancouver this week.
Kotli, who is also a popular poet and writer, expressed great satisfaction at the venture of the young kids to write poems on various subjects like Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Remembrance Day. He highly appreciated the efforts of Principal Giani Amar Singh Dhaliwal, Amin Jootha, the Grade 7 teacher who inspired his students to write poems, and the whole school staff for creating an inspirational atmosphere where students could think about literary activities like writing poems. The students recited the poems on the stage. They included Daman Kaur Gill who was honored last year by the Fraser Street Legion for reciting her poem.
Encouraging the students to go on pursuing this intellectual activity, Kotli said that he was in grade 6 when he tried to write a poem. He said it is good the students have written poems in English but it would be better if they also wrote in Punjabi. Referring to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Kotli said that the whole Granth Sahib Ji is in Punjabi poetry, reverently called Bani. Kotli presented his books of poems - “Nanak Duniya Kaisi Hoyi” and “Nanak Saair iv Kahyaa” - to the principal.
