VANCOUVER, BC (KP) - The Canadian Sangat woke up to a rude awakening last weekend when they discovered their government had denied entry to Panthic Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh Ji at Vancouver International Airport.

Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh upon arrival at Vancouver airport was stopped by the Canadian security agencies for 12 hours and not allowed to proceed any further. Not only this, but Bhai Ranjit Singh was sent back to India without ever getting to meet the Sikh Sangat any of those who had come to receive him.  Despite having a valid visa and carrying in his possession all the required documents, his entry was still denied.

Bhai Sahib had come to Canada for attending Nagar Kirtan on Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Parkash Divas in Abbotsford, in British Columbia on invitation of Gurdwara Kalgidhar Darbar. The Gurdwaras membership committee had kept the Jathedar’s visit discreet so that mischievous and anti-Panthic forces would not cause problems with the arrival of Bhai Ranjit Singh..

It is speculated that anti-Akal Takht and anti-Panthic forces had secretly contacted with the Canadian security agencies and opposed the arrival of Bhai Ranjit Singh in Canada. It is believed that these are the very same individuals who had also opposed the Hukamnama banning the partaking of Langar on chairs.

The official reply from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and Royal Canadian Police for Jathedar’s denial for entry was that the presence of Bhai Ranjit Singh in Canada could lead to a problems and confrontations between various factions in the local area.

As Bhai Ranjit Singh returned back to Punjab via Hong Kong, the exact details regarding the denial of entry will become clearer to the much disappointed Sikh Sangat in Canada. Many wonder if the same treatment would have been given by Canadian officials to a Christian or Jewish religious leader.
