Jasmeet Bains to win Student Good Citizenship Award
April 22nd, 2006 by adminJasmeet Bains of John Oliver secondary school is one of the 18 outstanding students selected for this year’s Student Good Citizenship Awards.
According to her citation by Vancouver School Board, “Jasmeet is an outstanding school leader and citizen. Throughout her five years at John Oliver, she been on the Honor Roll and has been active in extracurricular and leadership activities. She is highly regarded by the students and staff and is Student Council President and School Planning Council Representative. Jasmeet has been actively involved in many school clubs and volunteers in the community at soccer camps and at Sunset Community Centre. She plays on the senior girls’ volleyball, basketball and soccer teams. Jasmeet is an excellent role model for younger students.”
The VSB said that young humanitarians, mentors and outstanding leaders from the Vancouver public school system would be recognized for their selfless work at the 2006 Good Citizenship Awards to be held Thursday, April 27 in Council Chambers at Vancouver City Hall.
The work of these secondary students is truly inspiring and each year, they raise the bar to set even higher standards for a level of citizenship to which all Vancouverites can aspire. The Greater Vancouver Citizenship Council (GVCC) pays tribute each year to the school district’s most remarkable young people who have done so much and who continue to contribute to their schools and to their communities. Each of Vancouver’s 18 secondary schools selects one deserving student as its award recipient.
The official award ceremony will include keynote speaker, Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan.
