Canadian Delegation to Mata Gujri College
March 26th, 2006 by adminFatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, India - A delegation of education experts from Canada visited Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, yesterday. The College is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala. The delegation was led by Leslie (Skip) Triplett, President of Kwantlen University College, Surry, Toronto. The other member of the delegation was Harj Singh, Professor in the School of Business of Kwantlen University College, accompanied by Baltej Singh, Dean of Resource Mobilization, and Joga Singh, Nodal Officer of the Punjabi University.
Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, Principal Gurmohan Singh stated that the delegation came to Punjabi University, Patiala, at the invitation of the university Vice Chancellor Swaran Singh to explore the possibilities of student-faculty exchange programs in the studies of Punjabi language, culture and Sikh religion, and in studies relating to horticulture, business, nursing and other vocational programs of Punjabi University.
Talking about the delegation visit to his college, Gurmohan Singh said the visit was primarily made to understand the workings of and programs run by the colleges of Punjabi University. On reaching Mata Gujri College, the delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the college faculty and staff members, and was honored by the college principal.
The delegation was taken on a tour of various departments, including Computer Department. A brief presentation on the history, activities and achievements of the College and the Academic programs run by the college were shown to the delegation.
Speaking on this occasion Leslie Triplett discussed the background of his institution and the academic programs run by it. He offered cooperation with the student-faculty exchange programs. He also expressed his desire to device joint academic programs in which students both from India and Canada could pursue vocational and professional courses in both countries. He also extended an open invitation to the Mata Gujri College Principal to visit Kwantlen University College for such mutually agreeable academic program.
In his address Harj Singh briefly outlined the curriculum of the business courses and stressed upon the faculty to have in-depth exchange of ideas to benefit students in both India and Canada.
MGC Principal Gurmohan Singh assured the delegation that his college was open to suggestions made by the delegation and welcomed mutual academic programs.
Baltej Singh of Punjabi University assured the visiting delegation that his university would do its utmost to facilitate such mutual programs. He also assured to guild all the colleges affiliated to his university for mutual academic liaisons with prestigious foreign universities and colleges.
Baltej Singh said the delegation would hold meetings with Punjabi University Vice Chancellor, the Dean, Academic Affairs and Senior Faculty on March 21.
