Annual Gurpurab Nagar Keertan in Abbotsford!

Guru Maharaj ji di kirpa da sadka, the Nagar Keertan celebrations for the 402nd Prakash Divas of jugo-jug attal Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj were outstanding today. The nagar keertan felt somewhat longer this year, and the weather was really hot. Where many people saw clearly the display of kaljug, with people misusing the nagar keertan to promote “Bhangra Idols” concerts and socializing, in other places with souls drenched in the love of Guru Sahib, many gurmukh pyare saw the endless flowing streams of sangat pouring through all of the streets, following the float of Guru Sahib while singing gurbani keertan. Children and adults from various different gatka akharas showed their martial spirit and participated in various gatka demonstrations during the nagar keertan and during the park stop.

Each year the community services at the nagar keertan are improving, and there were shuttle vans, portable washrooms, and other facilities arranged. However there is still a lot of improvement to be made in terms of crowd control, littering / clean-up, focus on gurbani instead of socializing, and helping the elderly / disabled. Sangat was attending the nagar keertan from the Lower Mainland, North BC, California, Victoria, Calgary, Toronto, and various other places.

Humble sevadaars of charity organizations gave out pamphlets, books, CD’s, and other parchar materials out while others fed the sangat with water, juice, pop, and various types of food. The nagar keertan had floats organized by the various gurmat academies in BC, gurdwara sahibs, and organizations.With the blessings of Guru Sahib, today’s nagar keertan was an amazing display of the spirit of the Khalsa, the nectar of Naam, the enlightenment of Gurbani, and the love of the Guru.
