500th Birth Anniversary (Janam Divas) - Baba Buddha Jee

September 14th, 2006 by admin

According to the Sikh “Nanakshahi” Calendar, October 6th is the janam divas of Dhan Dhan Baba Buddha Jee. Baba Jee’s janam took place in 1506, so this is the FIVE HUNDREDTH birth anniversary. This is a very important and special celebration for the Sikh community as Baba jee was the only gursikh to have darshan of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Jee, Sri Guru Angad Dev Sahib jee, Sri Guru Amar Das Sahib Jee, Sri Guru Ram Das Sahib jee, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Sahib Jee, and Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee while they were on the gurgadhi. Baba Jee also had the darshan of Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Jee, Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib jee, before their gurgadi, and Sri Aad Granth Sahib Jee, before their completion in the form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. Baba Jee came into the Sikh panth through the darshan of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib jee, at the young age of 6 years old. Baba Jee assisted in the gurgadhi ceremony of Sri Guru Angad Dev Sahib Jee through to Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee. Baba jee was the first “Granthi” at Sachkhand Sri Harimandir Sahib, and Sri Guru Arjan Dev Sahib Jee praised Baba Jee as “Sikhi da thham” (the pillar of Sikhi). Guru Sahib said that if anybody wants to know how great a Sikh can become, look at the jeevan of Baba Buddha Jee. Many kathavachaks explain that Baba jee was so spiritually wise as a child, this is why he was given the name “Buddha” by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Jee, and Guru Sahib had so much pyaar for him that in Baba jee’s old age, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee had even put their own shoulder under the palkee (palanquin) carrying Baba Buddha Jee, before Baba jee realized and begged Guru Sahib not to test his Sikh in such a way. Baba Jee was so well respected that he was requested by Jagat Mata Sri Mata Ganga Jee, mahal (wife) of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, to give blessings for the birth of a child. Baba jee gave his blessings and told Sri Mata Jee that their son will smash the heads of tyrants the way Baba jee had smashed the small onion in his hand. Mata Jee and Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee’s son was Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee. This is all just a small glimpse - There are countless stories of Baba Buddha Jee’s life and legend. Congratulations to all the Khalsa Panth on the FIVE HUNDREDTH birth anniversary of Dhan Dhan Baba Buddha jee.
