3rd Annual Dastar Competition at Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD: In memory of the sacrifices of the four Sahibjaday, a dastar competition was held at Gurdwara Sahib Kalgidhar Darbar in Abbotsford on December 31.

The dastar is the crown of the Sikh Nation and the purpose of this competition is to have more youth and Sikhs wear the dastar. Sangat in large numbers gathered at the Gurdwara Sahib for this competition. Entries in the competition raged from children aged two years to seniors aged 75. Several different unique styles of dastars were seen including the Patiala style and the Nihang dumalla.

In the ten and under age group, 1st place went to Amrit Singh, 2nd place went to Harmanjit Singh and 3rd place went to Premjot Singh. In the 10-20 years group, 1st place went to Gurpreet Singh, 2nd place went to Sarbjot Singh and Pritpal Singh received 3rd place. In the 20-40 years group, Kulwant Singh received 1st place, Jaswinder Singh reeived 2nd place, and 3rd place went to Heera Singh. In the 40 years and up group, Preetam Singh received 1st place, 2nd place went to Mukhtiar Singh and rd place went to Ikbal Singh. In the womens group, 1st place went to Jasleen kaur, 2nd place went to Kamaldeep Kaur, and 3rd place went to Mantej Kaur.

The Gurdwara Ragis and Dhadis had a competition as well. 1st place went to Bhai Rajwant Singh, 2nd place went to Bhai Jagdev Singh, and Bhai Jaspal Singh received 3rd place. Due to the hard work and planning of the sevadars, the dastar competition was a great success.

Sangat from far and wide attended and enjoyed watching all of the participants tie their dastars in their respective styles.
