You Can Help us Before People Die in the Cold.

Time is Short But the Sikhs are Helping those crying out for help in this Region.
Help us to Fight Time and the Cold after the deadly earthquake in Kashmir.

Kashmir Kalgidhar Mission.

The recent earthquake in Kashmir has left a trail of death & destruction in its wake. The devastation in the Uri Tehsil of Baramulla Distt. and Tangadhar in Distt. Kupwara has been immense. Other than the total loss of houses in these areas several mosques, temples and gurdwaras have been razed to the ground. The Army has responded quickly but the support from the civil administration has been slow. Relief efforts are also half-hearted owing to the ever-present threat of terrorist attacks.

With the inspiring drive of Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, a Relief Mission has been started since the 18 th of October in those areas. The brief about the mission is mentioned below :
·                                 Multi-skilled team from The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib rises to about 200 people comprising engineers, masons & carpenters has already setup camps at Salamabad, Naupura, Lagama, Bhatgaran, Jabalaan, Gawalta, Sangania, Kohalnia, Singhtun, Badhan, Chakrah, Dardkot, Isham, Sultan Takki & Charunda in Tehsil Uri & Tangdhar in Kupwara Distt. and houses for the survivors are being built on a war-footing.
·                                 It is targeted to build/re-construct/repair approx. 2000 shelters and places of worship.
·                                 Almost 1500 bags of Cement, 1000 tarpaulins, 45 tons of Wooden beams and 24000 G.I Sheets have been dispatched to those areas and the assessment team of Engineer decides the mode of construction to be provided case to case.
·                                 The mission further requires G.I. Sheets, Tarpaulins, Water- proof Tents, Wooden Beams, Cement fiber Boards and Pre-fabricated Homes/Cabins.
Time is short and the Himalayan winter is about to set in. Most of the devastated area will be covered in snow and the survivors shall be pitted against the vagaries of cold and snow in those areas. It is imperative to provide these shelters before the D-day or else we would be left with no other option than to airlift these people to better parts in North India and provide them with accommodation, food and clothing till the snow melts in those higher reaches. We appeal to all to contribute generously towards this ground work relief effort since Governemental relief is slow-moving and would be diluted or late by the time it reaches the right hands. Money and material donated for the purpose will be used exclusively for reconstructing shattered homes and providing a safe roof for the survivors & building places of worship.
The race is on to beat the clock! The cause of helping humanity needs your immediate attention and we expect that this great effort will not be let down by us all.
In service of humanity—–Dr. Davinder Singh, Secretary, The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib, (H.P.)
